I oppose the proposed Special Economic Zones criteria (ERO 025-1077) because it gives the government too much power with no real oversight. The way it’s written, Ministers can decide which areas get picked, which projects move forward, and which companies are “trusted,” all based on their opinion. That’s way too vague and opens the door to favoritism and backroom decisions. There’s no clear accountability, no real protections for the environment or communities, and it could even override important safeguards for air, water, and Indigenous rights. In the end, this feels less like streamlining and more like giving the government a blank cheque with almost no checks or balances.
