The government’s new Unleashing Our Economy Act is poised to replace the Endangered Species Act with a MUCH weaker Species Conservation Act, stripping protections from more than 100 species at risk. It would also enable “special economic zones” that give chosen developers the power to ignore environmental laws.
It is like this government has gone rogue! I understand we need more industry/infrastructure etc but not at the expense of our endangered species and wetlands. We must protect our natural areas and ecosystems at all costs. These are what help protect us from climate change and help keep our ground waters clean. We must keep enough farmland to feed our growing population. These are irreplaceable and when they are gone they are gone and then where do we turn? More highways, more building is not going to save us. There are better ways to go about this rather than ramming everything through hoping no one will notice.
Please think of our future long term.
