I'm very concerned that a law that allows for a government ignoring widespread protest and concern about a topic infringes democratic Charter rights. It should require more than presumed consent for an issue that was never campaigned on. Further, for a government that has displayed a tendency towards preferential treatment as a standard, this opens the door to mass corruption. There can be no criteria for special economic zones that are not suspect and tainted by a pattern of behaviour from the government of the past 7+ years.
As an example, Therme's development of Ontario Place appears to have been subject to a fraudulent submission, the government did not do due diligence, is not beneficial to the public in any way, and despite all the many many things that suggest it should never be, could be pushed through by SEZ declaration. It's absurd and offensive.
