We remain committed to advocating for environmental protection and raising awareness within the government about the importance of safeguarding our ecosystems and the communities that inhabit them. Numerous references highlight the necessity of implementing special criteria to preserve these lands. While the pursuit of new long-term investment opportunities is acknowledged, it is crucial that the province fosters economic growth, diversifies trade, and strengthens supply chains without jeopardizing the habitats essential for various species. Furthermore, Indigenous rights continue to be overlooked, as this legislation does not merely amend existing laws but poses a significant threat to reshape Ontario’s legal framework. It centralizes unprecedented power within the executive branch, thereby creating substantial risks for both Indigenous rights and environmental stewardship.
I opposed this sweeping approach.
