I do not agree with the changes that are being proposed.
The changes to the timeline from 20 to 10 years for sites to be considered "occupied" by the Redside dace as well as the removal of "recovery" habitat that is not directly adjacent to "occupied" habitat serve one purpose that is not lost on those paying attention - reduce the amount of land protected for this species at risk to open it up for development.
Further, not enough consideration has been given to the species at risk listed as being potentially impacted by early exploration mining trails. For reptiles, for example - do you have an extensive understanding of all breeding sites to avoid? With a changing climate and these species more intermittently active, are you aware of their current timelines for critical life stages? Does the exclusion fencing you plan to use pose a risk to other wildlife or fragment habitat?
Stop eroding the Endangered Species Act. The people of this province have continued to vocalize their opposition to this type of behaviour. When is this government going to listen?
