I am writing as a concerned…

I am writing as a concerned citizen in response to this governments proposed changes to trapping regulations as a way to “streamline rules” and “reduce administrative burdens”. I my opinion, the reality is that there are potentially (and likely) serious consequences for animal welfare, environmental protection, and transparency. As such, I wish to express that I am strongly opposed to this proposal.

This is a democratic country, and you are elected officials. As such, my response to these regulatory changes are as follows:
- The government must provide full scientific documentation, environmental impact assessments, and data to support its claims. It should also consider extending the public comment period to allow stakeholders time to review this information and provide informed feedback.
- Laws around trapping need to prioritize animal welfare and should be informed by current, peer-reviewed science.
- Small financial gains for the fur trade should never come at the expense of animal protection, public safety, or ecological health.
- Beavers are keystone species that create wetlands, support biodiversity, and regulate water systems. - - Policies should safeguard habitats on Crown and private lands from increased or indiscriminate trapping, especially during the closed season.
- Strong reporting and regulatory oversight are essential to ensure that trapping practices comply with required standards.

I again wish to re-iterate that I am against the regulatory changes that you have proposed and have offered my concerns and requests to inform and re-evaluate these changes. I feel that many citizens of this province feel similar and are looking at your government to show both care, compassion and environmental leadership at this time in our history.
