I stand firmly against this…

I stand firmly against this proposal. Humans have already once created a near extinction of beavers for money and profit and with this proposal the same could happen. This is about profit and money.
It has so many flaws and goes against the recent science that is proving the absolute importance and value of keeping beavers in our ecosystems. They are a keystone species that create habitat for a myriad of other living things. They store and clean water on the land during droughts.
More importantly, considering the effect of climate change as well as the high number of forest fires Ontario deals with every summer, beavers on the land actually help mitigate the effects of these events.
Perfume and food flavourings are not important products. They are not important. There are other products that can be used in their place. A beaver should not be killed because of the smelly fluid it carries in two small glands. Their pelts have virtually no value so this has to be about creating a new market for trappers. Trappers can find other jobs like the rest of Canadians have to do when they lose they jobs.
Making it easier to trap/kill beavers also makes it more dangerous for the non target animals that will be killed. Non target animals are already being sacrificed to trap beavers, those numbers will increase.
Those who are culturally trappers (I assume you mean Indigenous Canadians) are different, they should be allowed to follow their culture. But their culture traps for sustenance and not profit.
Why would we want to do this? It makes no sense! We need to leave the animals in our ecosystems alone because those ecosystems are what sustain our environment and lives. Without clean water we die. Without functioning ecosystems we die. We don't need fur clothes, we don't need perfume made with beaver gland extract or food flavoured with it.
Read the science from the scientists who study the positive effects of beavers in our world before making such an irreversible damaging decision.
