These changes are in no way an improvement.
This needs to be strengthened to protect our species at risk, for longer periods. We are losing species at an alarming rate and we must do everything possible to ensure their protection. Watering down these regulations in order to allow development to be pushed through is a huge mistake, and does not represent the people who elected you. The developers are not the ones you need to answer to, but rather it is the general public.
We need stronger species at risk and environmental protection, in order to ensure our species and their habitat is protected, so that their survival can be supported.
Overriding any protection for either of these, by the MZO or other methods, is an assault on democracy and the system put in place for accountability. No one, whether in the government or other, should be able to avert or ignore the protections put in place.
We need to strengthen all of these protections, not weaken them, and this proposal is an extremely bad idea.
