I am writing in strong support of the Mississauga Official Plan 2051. This document reflects over five years of rigorous work led by municipal planners, traffic and transit specialists, engineers, urban designers, environmental scientists, and other dedicated professionals — in close partnership with engaged residents.
This Plan represents a thoughtful, evidence-based strategy for guiding growth, protecting environmental assets, improving mobility, and creating complete communities. It deserves not just approval, but active support from the Province in its implementation and enforcement.
Residents expect the Province to uphold this Plan and to prevent repeated escalations to the Ontario Land Tribunal (OLT) by developers seeking to override it. The public is increasingly concerned by attempts to intensify development in areas not designated for it — a practice that undermines the integration of mass transit, worsens congestion and travel times, and threatens emergency service response.
Intensification must occur within designated zones to achieve the Plan’s vision and infrastructure goals. The Province has a moral obligation to stand behind the Official Plans it has approved, and to ensure that they are respected and enforced.
I urge the Province to approve this Official Plan. Its use of thoughtful, evidence-based decision-making — in alignment with Mississauga’s Strategic Plan and long-term vision — places public good above private profit. This Plan will ultimately foster a more livable, inclusive, and resilient city for current and future generations.
Thank you for considering this submission.
