I am absolutely opposed to the changes being suggested/considered regarding the management of this process. There is no proof that the changes you propose are transparent or without serious consequence (cruelty) to the affected animals. I see benefit to the trappers, benefit to those in the fur trading business but no benefit to the environment or the sustainability of these animals.
It is difficult to believe that in this day and age leg hold traps are still being used! It is 100 years overdue that "tradition" evolves to the level of knowledge available proving this method is torture for the animal. What resistance to eliminating these traps can possibly be creditable? Just get rid of them.
I encourage you to re-think these changes to something that works for all instead of just putting money in the pockets of a few at the cost of nature and animals.
