The government needs to back its claims with full scientific data, environmental assessments, and transparent documentation. Extending the public comment period would give people a fair chance to review and respond. Trapping laws should put animal welfare first, guided by up-to-date, peer-reviewed science. Small profits from the fur trade shouldn't outweigh the protection of wildlife, public safety, or ecosystem health.
Beavers play a crucial role in maintaining wetlands and supporting biodiversity. Their habitats—on both Crown and private lands—must be protected, especially from indiscriminate trapping during closed seasons. Hands off our beavers!
Clear reporting and strong oversight are key to ensuring trapping practices meet proper standards.
