Due to the negative impact of all Aggregate industry activities on the Environment, especially on the quality and quantity of surface and ground water, there should be more rigorous regulations and an increase in public notifications and participation in the application process.
Less scrutiny and making the application process more streamlined only favors the aggregate industry. It will most likely encourage an increase in the number of applicants. Ontario does not need to increase the number of pits and quarries. From experience with a pit in our area, there should be more monitoring and closure of existing sites. In my opinion, the anticipated environment and social consequences will be negative.
Thank you for the opportunity to share my opinion.
