Expanding allowances for trapping is a dangerous and unethical move. Canada is known for its diverse wildlife and opportunities to view these animals in the wild. Allowing increased trapping for economic opportunities completely dismisses the fact that animals bring in economics when they are alive and well.
Monetary gains for the fur trade should never come at the expense of animal protection, public safety, or ecological health.
Beavers especially are a symbol of Canada, a keystone species that create wetlands, support biodiversity, and regulate water systems. We do not need to repeat history and start increased trapping of these wonderful animals.
