1. Allow Sale of Raw Beaver castoreum: I suspect permitting the sale of this product will do nothing less than increase the illegal slaughter of beaver.
2. Reduce Reporting Requirements: Why is this necessary? It is ridiculous to think that a relaxation of reporting requirements will not lead to more inhuman and illegal trapping and killing of beaver.
3. Expand Methods for Killing Trapped Furbearing mammals. Why would the gov’t ever permit fire arms to be used after dark? Current regulations do not permit the use of firearms in Ontario during dark. Using guns at night is a license for disaster. Beaver do not use one’s back yard as habitat. The are found in the wild, in areas where one can easily lose their footing! A recipe for more deaths from firearms.
4. Why is it necessary to expand the open season for beaver? A significant decrease in the population of this national treasure can be the only result.
Are these changes only to facilitate the sale of beaver castoreum? There aren’t too many people buying costs made of beaver pelts.
