Bill 5, in the guise of fighting Donald Trump, does exactly what he is doing. It eliminates environmental protections and ignores binding treaties with First Nations to allow indiscriminate resource extraction in any area that the government designates 'a special economic zone'.
Bill 5 should be repealed and all environmental protections reinstated. Any corporation that proposes to develop 'special economic zones' must be governed by the rules of regulatory agencies and by the rights of the First Nations who are also first to suffer from the consequences of poor planning and nonexistent regulations.
Polluted water, air, and food will harm us all. It is not worth destroying Ontario to save it.
