I am concerned that Bill 5 gives too much power to politicians to select development projects that put Ontario's air, land and water at greater risk of degradation. While the intent to foster new development projects to build the housing is something our province sorely needs, it could potentially come at a great cost to our protected environmental areas. The world is already experiencing a dire amount of biodiversity loss, which is already undermining the ecosystem services we rely on for survival, such as clean air, water, and food. If we circumvent processes meant to protect our environment, we will all suffer for it in the long-term. Please consider ways to incorporate high standards for environmental reviews and protections into this bill.
