I am appalled that the draft regulation for the SEZ act contains no mechanism to affirm Indigenous rights or consultation requirements. REally? After all this time, we're still doing the same thing? And worse because we know better?
As a physician concerned with the rights of my patients, I know I speak for many of them that this act is reminiscent of decisions made in the 30's in places like Germany.
I do not feel that this Act safeguards the health of individuals. While the designated projects within SEZs are only required to consider health and environmental risks, there’s no requirement to ensure that risk mitigation strategies actually work, and no independent oversight. Who is deciding on these risks. How far into the future are we going. Indigenous peoples, in general think of seven generations, not the life term of a politician. This is about safeguarding water above all else. Water is life. No water is: no life.
Sincerely
