As an experienced Civil Engineer and Transportation Planner, I wholeheartedly disagree with the intent of this policy change, specifically with the following exemptions from the EA process:
"all municipal roads or new parking lots in any location, reconstruction of any bridges with or without cultural heritage value, all water crossings; all private sector infrastructure projects for residents of a municipality regardless of size, including a new sewage treatment plant of any size".
This runs counter to the needs of Ontarians and future generations, not to mention the environment and the natural systems upon which we depend. There is absolutely no reason to give a blanket exemption for all projects of this nature. This is at best a thinly veiled means of eliminating hurdles for the Ford government to push ahead with the ill-advised Hwy 413 / Bradford Bypass project.
I could not be more ashamed of my government for proposing this. I do not support this in the slightest.
