Please don’t make it easier for developers to pollute. Please ensure that animals are protected during sewer management. Please work with the Canadian Centre for Alternatives to Animal Methods to develop non animal alternatives to Acute Lethality Testing and other tests on effluent.

There is no scientific rationale for why municipal road projects (new schedule c arterial roads) and bridges would be exempt from the Environmental Assessment Act. What is the basis for this proposal?

No confidence in this current provincial government to do anything remotely close to what is in the best interests of the environment. Do not revoke environmental protections for the sake of fast-tracking infrastructure.
I strongly oppose this legislation. Reducing environmental assessment requirements for major construction projects will cause untold harm to the benefit of developers and construction companies.
Environmental laws and regulations should be getting more strict with more oversight, not less.

It is not responsible to sacrifice the safeguards the maintain our watershed and the health of our environment for making a quick buck. There is no reason to fast track construction for projects that have not had proper public oversight and do not contribute to the betterment of society.

Removing the environmental assessment requirements would be near-sighted and blissfully ignorant. Ontario has environmental controls in the first place for protection of beneficial ecosystems and preservation of the beauty in this province.

The Municipal Engineers Association should not solely be responsible or regulate the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment. This group does not reflect or speak on behalf of common stakeholders in the EA process, nor do they necessarily have all of the skills or expertise to complete an EA.

I hope that while you are streamlining Municipal EAs, you are simultaneously creating EAs that need to be completed for developers and private land owners!! Why should they be able to do whatever they want to the fragile ecosystem that they own???
As an Engineer who works in municipal infrastructure, I am left wondering what recourse concerned citizens have if they approach the proponent and their concerns are not addressed?

It seems like the only difference is the 6-month timeline now, where before there is no set timeline for EAs. The supporting engineering studies and process sounds to be the same, correct? Proponents will still need to take inventory of environmental features.

As an experienced Civil Engineer and Transportation Planner, I wholeheartedly disagree with the intent of this policy change, specifically with the following exemptions from the EA process:

I am very concerned about this process being revoked. This feels like a way to circumvent proper environmental investigation and community consultation. Highway 413 comes to mind, a project that has had HUGE backlash and opposition which the current government is deciding to ignore.

Very concerned that new roads are exempt from the EA process in this new proposed MPAP. A TMP does not consider environmental impacts and we need to ensure that environmental studies and consultation is properly completed, that is why the EA process was created in the first place.

I am strongly opposed to this proposed change in regulation. Future generations will pay for the environmental impacts that will result. Solving the housing crisis requires planning that doesn't just create more problems elsewhere. Let's not encourage municipalities to make poor long-term decisions.
The Town of Bracebridge is in favour with the proposal that all municipal roads or new parking lots in any location, reconstruction of any bridges with or without cultural heritage value would no longer require a Class EA.

It's upsetting to see how the current government is not committed to environmental protections but rather undoing processes and standards that help protect natural resources.

Staff of the Township of Springwater are generally satisfied with the proposed streamlined municipal infrastructure EA process and regulation as this will greatly reduce delays in the implementation of projects, while maintaining appropriate environmental oversight and consultation opportunities.
