I am anonymously voicing my concern on the Government proposal to revoke the Municipal Class EA ( MCEA) and private sector developers regulation. I am concerned that with the new laws being pushed are reducing consultation of First Nations. The EA modernization proposals without funding of the government for individual First Nations is unacceptable. The new proposal will strip important EA proposal requirements. C.O.T.T.F.N.( Chippewas of the thames First Nation) are against these new rules as they maintain rights all lands, waters and its citizens in southern Ontario. The Ontario archeological society is also against this. The current proposal doesn’t reflect the feedback from First Nations and more important questions have gone ignorantly unanswered by the government. Section 16 does not safeguard indigenous rights and was imposed with a tight deadline without the right of appeal. This is cutting corners and saving costs to private developers on the expense of the First Nation and treaty rights, this is sickening and shameful. Im an archeologist and this impacts my Job directly. The danger of this proposal removing MCEA, this would remove important archeological assessments for the advance of development. Without the MCEA, municipalities would be not meeting obligations under the Ontario heritage act. This will also impact irreplaceable cultural and heritage of First Nations we can’t get back.
