The Province of Ontario is, regardless of intent, encouraging the business of trapping. It would seem that this practice is one that is not any longer compatible with society's view of the killing of wild animals. Acknowledging that a minority of people still pursue hunting as a means of feeding their families, the practice of trapping and sport hunting are relics of a by gone era.
It is particularly disturbing that the Province has not done a thorough analysis of the total impact of its proposed changes. Most notably, the elimination of the need for persons to submit annual filings of their activity diminishes the base of knowledge upon which future decisions can be made. Surely given the technological advances in information being available, the Province could operated a user friendly method of reporting. It seems that the reduction of effort created by eliminating this need is more aligned with an philosophy of "eliminating red tape", than significantly accomplishing anything.
What benefit for the residents of Ontario and the science of understanding wildlife is achieved?
