I am gravely concerned regarding current and planned policies related to trapping and wildlife management. These issues demand a transparent, science-based approach that reflects our collective responsibility to protect both ecological systems and animal welfare.

It is essential that the government provide full scientific documentation, environmental impact assessments, and the supporting data behind its policy decisions. In the interest of transparency and public trust, I also urge that the public comment period be extended. This would allow all stakeholders adequate time to review the materials and offer informed, meaningful feedback.

Trapping regulations must prioritize animal welfare and be grounded in current, peer-reviewed science. Laws that fail to reflect modern standards risk not only ethical concerns but also public safety and ecological harm. Small financial gains from the fur trade should never be permitted to outweigh the long-term well-being of our environment or the humane treatment of wildlife.

Particularly, beavers—recognized as keystone species—play a critical role in creating wetlands, maintaining biodiversity, and regulating water systems. Their habitats, both on Crown and private lands, must be protected from increased or indiscriminate trapping, especially during closed seasons when animals are more vulnerable.

Lastly, strong reporting requirements and regulatory oversight are necessary to ensure that trapping practices meet established standards. Without rigorous monitoring and enforcement, the integrity of any wildlife management framework remains at risk.

Thank you for your attention to these concerns. I trust that you will consider the long-term impacts on ecosystems, public interests, and animal welfare in any forthcoming decisions.
