Doug Ford’s government has once again shown its disregard for democratic process, environmental protection, and Indigenous rights with the proposed Special Economic Zones framework under the “Protect Ontario by Unleashing our Economy Act, 2025” A. This proposal is a dangerous attempt to fast-track industrial development while sidestepping the very safeguards that protect our communities, ecosystems, and public health.

The fact that this regulation doesn’t even require posting on the Environmental Registry of Ontario is a blatant attempt to avoid scrutiny. It opens the door to exemptions from provincial laws in designated zones, decided behind closed doors by the Lieutenant Governor in Council. That’s not transparency it’s authoritarianism dressed up as economic policy.

Over 1,100 comments have already raised serious concerns about the lack of oversight, the threat to Indigenous sovereignty, and the potential environmental fallout. Yet Ford’s government continues to push forward, ignoring the voices of Ontarians and the principles of responsible governance.

This is not leadership. It’s recklessness. Doug Ford has repeatedly undermined public trust, and this latest move proves he is unfit to lead. For the sake of our province’s future, Doug Ford must resign.
