Protection of the environment should not be subservient to whatever project the minister deems to advance economic growth. Creation of special economic zones which override environmental protection, social programs or Indigenous concerns is the wrong approach. It is a misperception to assume that a strong economy can be achieved by overriding these concerns. The Special Economic Zones Act should be scrapped.
