Nov. 16, 2025 Bill 5 ERO Comments Submission by Ecohesian

Dear ERO & Ontario Government,

Thanks for your striving & for welcoming our comment feedback submission regarding Bill 5.

Ecohesian is vehemently opposed to Bill 5 & demand that it be repealed immediately. We join Indigenous Peoples, people of conscience, ENGOs, NGOs, lawyers, & fellow specialists in planetary health, conservation, disaster management, & intersectional justice who are demanding the same.

Because Bill 5:

Breaks Treaties;
Violates Indigenous Sovereignty;
Violates UNDRIP;
Violates legal duty to free & prior informed consent of Indigenous Peoples;
Violates multiple laws;
Violates & denies duty to meaningful public consultation;
Destroys Indigenous sacred spaces, burial grounds, & ancestral traditional unceded territories;
Destroys greenspace & habitat;
Kills endangered species at risk;
Ends the Endangered Species Act with a weaker Species Conservation Act lacking adequate protections;
Harms the health, safety, & lives of people, planet & wildlife;
Harms the sacred lands, waters, & air we share; and
Harms public trust while eroding mechanisms for accountability.

We closely followed the OLA proceedings regarding Bill 5 & witnessed the Ford government’s reprehensible coercive colonial legislated violence governance & callous disregard for Indigenous Peoples, people of conscience, & evidence-based specialists opposing Bill 5. Contrary to Ford’s coercive colonial legislated violence of Bill 5 & more, Ontario is not “open for business” to the highest bidder to consume & discard people & planet for privileged profit. One cannot protect “Canada” nor “Ontario” from fascist trumpism by emulating its same source of colonial violence occupying Indigenous Peoples of Kanaada / Ganaada ("Canada"), Turtle Island.

We urge the Ontario Government to immediately repeal Bill 5, reinstate the Endangered Species Act, honour Treaties & Indigenous Peoples, honour duty to free & prior informed consent of Indigenous Peoples, honour UNDRIP, honour accountability & law that protects the most at risk of people & planet, & honour meaningful public consultation that recenters Indigenous Peoples impacted, planetary health, conservation evidence-based sciences, & disaster management.
