To Whom it May Concern,
I vehemently disagree with the idea of reducing rules for trappers to dispatch furbearing mammals. There is nothing humane about this and I challenge you to prove otherwise. MANY animals in traps either chew off their own legs to be free (in the case of leg hold traps) or suffer an excruciating and painful death as they await in anxiety and stress to be clubbed, or shot. Animals other than the intended animal also enter traps that were not intended to be trapped. I have done my research to learn these facts and will compile it for my next set of emails.
You have used the language in the proposal that you anticipate the outcome to be positive. Please explain how this could be positive to the beaver that is being trapped or any other furbearing animal?
There are many other, less terrible ways to to manage conflicts with wildlife. Wildlife were here first. We need to learn to co-exist and stop destroying the environment, biodiversity and the entire web of life over. I will also include these other ideas in my next email. Wildlife matters. And the welfare of wildlife matters.
This proposal is unacceptable and I am so very distraught that our government who wants to stop inhumane and harmful practices for animals would propose such an idea.
I will also register my name and write back, in case you would like to have a further conversation. I am a university-educated, graduate with a number of degrees. Those who have any education and care about the interconnection of the environment, wildlife and humans would stand-up and fight this proposal. It is disgusting. At this time I will only speak for myself and my family, but I will be reaching out to my MPP, to Doug Ford and to all who will listen. I am sickened and disappointed by the thought of this very ill-informed proposal. It appears like the government must have furbearers in their pocket to suggest such a ridiculous solution to ensuring our planet is here for seven generations and beyond.
