I oppose the proposed changes to Ontario trapping regulations. These changes have been developed without any scientific documentation regarding the impact to the environment and the animals that are affected. Trapping laws should prioritize animal welfare and be supported by peer-reviewed scientific evidence. Increasing the incomes of fur traders should not come at the expense of animal protection nor the health of the environment. In particular, beavers are a keystone species critical to ecological health and water sources and should not be subjected to indiscriminate trapping, especially during the closed season. Strong reporting and regulatory oversight are essential to ensure that trapping practices comply with required standards.
