Honestly, I thought the dreadful persecution of the beaver was long in the past, but no.
I do not agree with government changes that would reduce reporting requirements for fur dealers. Required reporting on the murder of these poor creatures will help to ensure public accountability and transparency.
I do not agree with expansion of allowable methods for murdering trapped furbearing mammals. This opens the door for increased pain and suffering to these poor creatures.
I do not agree with permitting trapping of beavers on Crown land during the closed season (outside Sept to April). Beavers have been proven to do wonderful work for the environment (ok, occasionally they may cause a problem). We want to keep the beavers alive and healthy and continuing their good work. Our province has a spotty history of failing to protect our beautiful natural environment and I do not support any weakening of laws that increase the killing of our wildlife, the methods that would be allowed to enact such killing or the timeframe that they would be allowed to be killed.
Ontario, needs to step up on the environment not down. This is a voting issue for me.
Thank you for listening.
