Mandatory reporting to the ministry, at least yearly, is essential and should not be discarded. This is required for proper oversight, and without them, accountability and compliance will weaken.

The government should reference environmental impact assessments and scientific studies that are available for public viewing when making decisions and changes to current processes.

Animal trapping practices should prioritize humane treatment of animals and their welfare first and foremost. Up-to-date, peer-reviewed data needs to be taken into account, and financial benefits should not override the above. Animal and environmental wellbeing, as well as public safety, need to be the priority.

Beavers should not be trapped or hunted during closed season. They are keystone species and directly benefit the ecosystems they exist in: creating wetlands, regulating waterways, and supporting biodiversity.
