In a time when we are facing multiple overlapping crisis (biodiversity, and climate to name the two most relevant to this legislation) it is UNCONSCIONABLE that The Ministry of Environment is washing its hands of any responsibility for care-taking our natural and cultural heritage environment.

Previously, municipal infrastructure projects needed to consult with Ministry advisors as to the potential environmental risk they might pose, and then study and propose solutions for the particular risks identified for that project. There were extremely good reasons for this.
The new proposals might work in huge metropolises with a wide range of skills on staff, but what about small municipalities with few staff? Who helps staff needing advice? Worse, who coaches municipal staff that they need advice? These are the reasons why provincial oversight is necessary.
