We need to urge the Government of Ontario to repeal the Special Economic Zones Act or significantly amend the Act and the proposed regulations to ensure Indigenous rights are respected, social and especially environmental standards are upheld and evidence-based transparent decision-making is followed.
We need public consultations that give the tax payer opportunity to review the decision-making process. At present, the rapid, hurried response to the challenges presented by the politician situation in the USA is very knee-jerk and panicked. Yes, we must be fiscally responsible, but the priority should be the environment.
