This bill is legislating away the right of Ontario citizens. The special economic zones are allowing companies to legally destroy the Environment by removing Environmental Assessments from projects where an Assessment is required. You are allowing Companies to police themselves and that never works out to the betterment of the Environment or the residents within the Special Economic Zone. In Dresden Ontario where a Special Economic Zone has been created to benefit York1 by allowing them to build a recycling landfill on a Brownfield piece of property. The developing of this land only 400 meters from neighborhoods and the local High School is putting families and the students at risk. The methane in layers below the property has not been properly assessed and could be a problem at the same level as those that were seen in Wheatly Ontario. The Contamination in the soil on the property, from previous owners and their activities, when disturbed could easily contaminate the ground water, Molly's Creek behind the property and the wells of home owners surrounding the property.
SEZ's on their own are a bad idea especially when it takes away the protections for Ontario residents.
