The purpose of this bill is not to streamline anything for the sake of speeding up the response to the housing crisis, its purpose is to enable private developers to cut corners in order to minimize their monetary investment prior to a project commencing.

The idea that rules should either somehow not apply, or apply in a diminished manner for something determined to be in great need is a textbook tactic of fiscal conservative governments to reduce checks and balances put in place by governments with long term goals in mind without care for how such a decision will impact the future.

The current government has made it abundantly clear that they will do anything and everything they can to try to appease real estate developers in minimizing the amount of time, rules, and initial capital investment needed for them to start exploiting exponential population growth due to unchecked and poorly handled immigration consolidating in a single metropolitan area.

The Ford government's solution to this problem is not to subsidize housing or jobs in regions of Ontario that are in dire need of population growth, but is to instead try to aid developers in their bid to build a more and more congested GTA. That is, after all, where the money is.

There should hopefully be statements from affected unions, indigenous groups, and job sectors as this bill approaches that express the specifics of what will come to pass should this bill pass, but the purpose of this letter was to instead hopefully make whoever's eyes it reaches ask why exactly this bill is being proposed in the first place.

Obviously the partisan nature of our government means that nothing I say or do will stop every last PC MPP from voting in favour, but when that time comes I hope you will ask yourself whether you genuinely think that your actions are going to solve the housing crisis, or if you are simply toeing the party line because your boss wants an easy PR and temporary economic boom that just so conveniently happens to line the pockets of those in his inner circle.
