By making these changes to the MCEA you will be permanently destroying the cultural heritage of hundreds of years of Canadian history as well as THOUSANDS of years of Indigenous history. This erasure of Indigenous history is precisely why the province has legislation like the MCEA and the Standards and Guidelines for Consultant Archaeologists. This is an infringement on the treaty rights of the First Nations of Ontario and violates the rights set out by UNDRIP.
In addition to this, revoking the MCEA for these particular projects ignores the dire environmental consequences that projects such as these have. Please read and follow the advice of experts. The short-term gain that the government, municipalities, and private developers MAY benefit from will come to haunt us and future generations if we do not put effort and care into protecting our environment.
