Re: Proposal to revoke the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment and Private Sector Developers Regulation acts in their current form. I have great concern that without the current acts, and even with the proposed streamlined ones, the following municipal projects would no longer be subject to environmental assessment requirements:
· municipal roads
· bridge reconstructions
· all private sector infrastructure
So even massive scale infrastructure projects like the 413 highway and all the subdivisions and condominium buildings being constructed by private developers may be able to avoid the requirements for archaeological surveys or environmental assessments. This is VERY serious.

Secondly, the Ontario Archaeological Society has already issued a statement about the way that this proposal will leave archaeological and other cultural heritage sites vulnerable to disturbance and destruction.
The danger to previously unknown or unidentified archaeological sites is pretty obvious.
What seems even worse is that already established archaeological excavation sites and burial site investigations are at risk of having their protections stripped.
A few First Nations have already issued their own statements, saying that this is moving in exactly the opposite direction of many calls to action from the Truth and Reconciliation report.
