I am appalled that this government would commit such an ignorant and malicious rollback of protection to Indigenous heritage in the face of TRC Calls to Action. Ontario is held up as one of the most progressive places in the world for their archaeological and heritage protection, this regulation would turn that to shame, falling far behind most of the rest of Canada. I fear the critical archaeological sites and indeed ancestral burial sites which will be bulldozed because no one is mandated to take the simple step to ask what they might destroy. Make no mistake: this new regulation will be the destruction of hundreds if not thousands of sites. Indigenous groups deserve protection of their history and heritage. Canada has promised it to them in the TRC Calls for Action. To pretend you are doing to while taking steps like this to actively disregard them in the name of profit is simply reprehensible.
