This proposal is extremely harmful and disrespectful to the Indigenous communities, not just in Ontario, but in all of Canada. First, they were not consulted on any of this. Why? Because you know that it is wrong? That they would not agree to this? If the government is as serious about truth and reconciliation practices as they claim to be, then it should be a no brainer to ensure this proposal isn’t put into action. Second, this is the destruction of cultural heritage. Hundreds, if not thousands, of archaeologically significant sites will be destroyed in the pursuit of lining the pockets of Ontario’s 1%. Culture is a value that many in Canada hold near to us; it is a uniquely human construct. And you are trying to destroy it to make extra money that you do not need, at the expense of those who are already systemically discriminated against. For once, can the government show that they actually care about the people it serves?
