Re: Municipal Class EA (MCEA) and Private Sector Developers Regulation in favour of a new “streamlined EA regulation.”
I am reaching out to you to protest, in the strongest terms, the government's decision to gut the provisions for archaeological investigations prior to development. This is a new low for the Ford government. Is this your attempt at Reconciliation? These archaeological investigations often involve the heritage of First Nations in Ontario. To bulldoze these sites and obliterate their culture without investigation and mitigation is appalling. It is a travesty and a complete abrogation of your responsibility as the government of ALL the people of Ontario, not just Mr Ford's cronies.
If you proceed with this ill-conceived proposal you will have managed to drag us all backward to a time when the archaeological heritage of Indigenous peoples and Settler communities was destroyed with no chance to learn about our collective past. Will you also destroy burials and sweep them under the rug?
Shame on you.
