American Eel are an important part of Ontario’s ecosystems. Clearly an immediate action is needed to ensure that they are not lost from Ontario. The government response statement outlines a good path forward for research and planning, but it fails to call for sufficient short-term actions.

I believe immediate action needs to be done to create safe passage down stream for mature Eels and up stream passage for immature eels. If this can not be provided fairly soon, I am afraid we will get below a level recovery making it more difficult rebuild the population.

American Eel are an important part of Ontario’s ecosystems and cultural heritage. Clearly immediate action is needed to ensure that they are not lost from Ontario and Ontario waterways shared with other jurisdictions.
