My biggest concern is that actions 7 and 8 should be made quantitative and should be applied immediately. These actions refer to the upstream and downstream passage of the American eel.
The Ontario Rivers Alliance (ORA) is a Not-for-Profit grassroots organization acting as a voice for several stewardships, associations, private and First Nation citizens, who have come together to protect, conserve and restore Ontario riverine ecosystems.
The Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters (OFAH) is committed to the conservation and recovery of Ontario’s biodiversity, and as such, we are highly supportive of the recovery of American Eel. The completion of a Government Response Statement (GRS) has been long-awaited.

Les anguilles d’Amérique sont très importantes pour les écosystèmes de l’Ontario. Des mesures claires et immédiates sont nécessaires pour assurer qu’elles ne disparaissent pas à jamais de l’Ontario.

American Eel are an important part of Ontario’s ecosystems. Clearly an immediate action is needed to ensure that they are not lost from Ontario. The government response statement outlines a good path forward for research and planning, but it fails to call for sufficient short-term actions.
