I strongly oppose changing regulations of trapping beavers. Especially on Crown land. This is not conservation, but a way of sacrificing wildlife for profit. Lire davantage

The laws governing trapping in Ontario are already too lax. Trapping already causes a great deal of suffering to 'target' animals and also to non-target animals the industry calls 'trash'. When an animal chews off their own limbs to escape the trapping industry calls it 'wring off'. Lire davantage

The government must provide full scientific documentation, environmental impact assessments, and data to support its claims. It should also consider extending the public comment period to allow stakeholders time to review this information and provide informed feedback. Lire davantage

Have you forgotten the lessons of Grey Owl? Beavers are keystone species that create wetlands, support biodiversity, and regulate water systems. Policies should safeguard habitats on Crown and private lands from increased or indiscriminate trapping, especially during the closed season. Lire davantage

In the current state of the world, with animal populations dramatically dwindling due to factors such as the climate crisis, we need to stand firm by the regulations we have in place to prevent industries from damaging the environment and further devastating animal populations. Lire davantage

I do not believe these changes should be allowed. This government is not doing nearly enough to protect wild animals and their environments. Wildlife in this province has been declining for decades and should be protected as an important resource. Lire davantage

I am opposed to the proposed changes which would allow trappers to kill beavers in Ontario with less oversight. Beavers are an essential part of our ecosystem and they should only be trapped or killed when absolutely necessary.

The proposed change to regulations represents a step backwards in animal welfare and conservation best practices in Ontario. Permitting the use of inhumane traps goes against mountains of evidence that have shown the significant harm caused by these devices. Lire davantage

First and foremost it is important and expected that laws around trapping need to prioritize animal welfare and should be informed by current, peer-reviewed science and small financial gains for the fur trade should never come at the expense of animal protection, public safety, or ecological health. I am frankly fed up with the continued roll-back of environmental and wildlife protection from this government. I am not okay with making it easier to trap, shoot (using a pistol after dark? Really?) or market wildlife. If anything I’d like to see stronger restrictions on trapping and “harvesting”. Lire davantage

As a wildlife biologist for the provincial government in British Columbia, I have witnessed firsthand the detrimental impact of streamlining processes to reduce administrative burden - the result is a significant loss of monitoring and tracking of fur bearer populations with the reduced reporting re Lire davantage

Although you are claiming these changes will promote humane trapping and help manage wildlife conflicts, they carry serious risks that cannot be ignored. Expanding trapping and allowing more methods for killing increases the risk of suffering for both target and non-target species. Lire davantage
