Allow the sale of raw beaver castoreum by licensed fur dealers. Castoreum is a natural secretion from beavers that is used in perfumes and as a food flavouring. Currently, regulations prevent the sale of this byproduct in raw form. Read more

Given our current climate crisis, this proposal is incredibly disappointing and lacks progressive and evidence-based decision-making for the benefit of all citizens, not only those in the trapping industry who stand to gain economically. Read more

In view of what is being proposed, the Ontario government should, through its due diligence and accountability to its constituents, provide more reasonable time for the public to read, research and respond. Read more

Beavers are very important to ecosystems and preventing the spread of wildfires. Allowing beavers to be harvested in the driest part of the year is a bad idea given the number of wildfires that we have been experiencing across the country over the last few summers. Read more

I am in full agreement to the proposed changes. I am a licenced trapper here in ontario, these changes would make an immediate positive change in how we do our jobs out on the line and on crown land.

No. No to trapping animals on Crown lands, on provincial parks land or waterways or out of season on private land and wayerways. We must provide environmental sanctuaries, not declare more devastation on our wildlife and their many benefits to our land and waterways. Read more

Opposition to Proposed Changes to Ontario Trapping Regulations I strongly oppose the proposed changes to Ontario’s trapping regulations as they represent a serious step backward for wildlife protection, ecosystem health, and public accountability. Read more

If Trappers want to 'have the burden of yearly reports' removed or are currently having issues with 'humanely killing their trapped animals after dark' or how they want to open up the 'closed season' on beavers - which is the time of year when young are born, which may leave the young without parent Read more

The proposed amendments seem to favour the commercial fur industry and trappers over the welfare of wildlife. The proposed amendments are outdated and are an attack on our wildlife. Read more

To Whom It Concerns: Laws around trapping need to prioritize animal welfare and should be informed by current, peer-reviewed science. Small financial gains for the fur trade should never come at the expense of animal protection, public safety, or ecological health. Read more

I think it is about time that these changes are made. However the one thing that I do not like is the ministry ability to tweak without consultation. "The ministry would retain the ability to add conditions to a licence, as needed, to address specific compliance issues."

Beavers are keystone species that create wetlands, support biodiversity, and regulate water systems. Policies should safeguard habitats on Crown and private lands from increased or indiscriminate trapping, especially during the closed season.

This proposal is completely misguided. It is not okay to make such changes just so that a few individuals can earn a few more bucks. You are proposing an increase in the number of killed sentient beings here, not the trade of inanimate objects. Read more
