I am very disappointed that Butternut trees, barn swallows, and other wildlife are being delisted. These changes are simply to make it easier for developers and other corporations to destroy their habitats. Read more

The gutting of Ontario’s once commendable Endangered Species Act clearly shows that this government does not have a sustainable plan to improve the status of species at risk. Read more

Typical Ford government B.S. Exempting forestry and particularly mining, early mining or not, is utterly a sick sham. There is no protection that I've seen in Northwestern Ontario - it's a free-for-all here. Read more

With the removal of training previously provided by the province for the undertaking of Butternut Health Assessments, there needs to be more oversight by the MECP and/or qualified organizations to audit Butternut Expert Reports to ensure appropriate assessment of trees. Read more

The biggest threat to the endangered Redside Dace is habitat loss, and urban and agricultural development. The proposed amendments to their habitat protections serve only to undermine the recovery of this species and perpetuate the harmful actions that have put them in peril. Read more

RE: amend O. Reg. 832/21 to shorten the timeframe from 20 to 10 years such that any part of a stream or other watercourse that was used by Redside Dace at any time during the previous 10 years would be considered to be ‘occupied’ habitat under the regulation Read more

These change do not help the species they claim to, but rather this proposal is obviously capitulation to the demands of developers. Do not do this. It is embarrassing and shameful that you would even put this forward. Read more

These proposed changes need to be considered through a climate change lens. The extreme temperature fluctuations, the severe drought/ rain events will have impacts on watersheds and habitats for the red dace. Conservation needs to be strengthened on the side of the planet not profit. Read more

- What are the factors driving the need for this change? - Given that there are many watersheds that will be impacted by the proposed changes, how will MECP staff be directed to deal with records that are older than 10 years in terms of occupancy? Read more

ERO # 019-8016 - Amendments to the Endangered Species Act Members of our nature club want to see species at risk well-protected. The proposed changes to regulations would lessen protections for species and give more leeway for developers to destroy endangered species and their vital habitats. Read more

After having reviewed the proposed amendments, I am deeply concerned for the species at risk in Ontario. It appears that your provincial government is going against your own Endangered Species Act, and removing protections from species that are Endangered and have not recovered. Read more
