The proposed changes blatantly disregard Aboriginal, Inherent, and Treaty Rights. It will have disastrous impacts to registered and protected archaeological sites with no recourse for mitigation. It will also impact archaeological sites that are not yet known.

This proposal flies directly in the face of the TRC calls to action. This is clearly intended to benefit the developer friends of Doug Ford and only serves to create what will effectively be the second family compact in Ontario.

This is a stupid idea and should not happen. You would be invalidating all the work done so far to reconcile with the indigenous communities by letting their land not be surveyed before we build on it thus further ruining any artifacts or tokens that are left behind
How can we ensure the safety and sanctity of potential indigenous and historical sites if assessments aren’t conducted?? Not only will this cause issues with the preservation of history and culture, jobs will also be lost.

This new proposal will be cutting corners in development and is HIGHLY CONCERNING.
The Municipal Class Environmental Assessment Process should not be eliminated. It will leave archaeological heritage including Ancestor burials unprotected.

I’m an 18 year old student living in Toronto Ontario who is studying to become an archaeologist. My passion is learning about and preserving the beautiful history of this province, but with this new proposal I see my future threatened.

The proposed changes to this environmental assessment requirements are appalling. Municipal roads, bridge reconstructions and private sector infrastructure should be subject to EA Act requirements.
This proposal does not provide adequate protection for archaeological heritage.

This new regulation would be destroying the history of Canada’s indigenous population under the guise of providing much needed housing development but in reality is just another way of helping Doug Ford’s developer friends make money faster and easier.

Not only does this proposal present a danger to unknown archaeological sites and Ancestor burials, but it impacts even the recorded archaeological sites.

I am deeply concerned about the potential for developers to profit off of protected land at a reduced cost due to the change in EA regulation.

This proposal to remove the requirement of surveying and documenting archaeological sites prior to developing on said sites will destroy the culture and heritage of indigenous peoples and goes against reconciliation efforts.

Whilst I recognise and support the endeavours to upgrade infrastructure, this should be done in harmony with and respect for the environment, the archeological foundations of the province, and the agreement of First Nations peoples whose ancestry in this land is far older than ours.

KEEP the regulations, keep MCEA and PSDR. saying NO to your “new regulations” for more freedom and ability for municipalities and private entities to be less regulated, and not held accountable if they disrupt indigenous burials or commit other harmful acts.
