This should be scraped in its current iteration and fully rewritten to put environmental and first nations first (as such is required by constitutional obligations). Without strict rules and permits, this proposal will be shot down in court and legally be required to be rewritten.

I oppose the proposed Special Economic Zones criteria (ERO 025-1077) because it gives the government too much power with no real oversight. The way it’s written, Ministers can decide which areas get picked, which projects move forward, and which companies are “trusted,” all based on their opinion.

As a resident of Ontario I strongly oppose this, it illegally infringes on the rights of Indigenous Canadians and threatens the safety of all Canadians by bypassing key environmental checkpoints.
This will be devastating for people and the environment. We do NOT need this to encourage economic development. This will result in abuses of power and sow distrust of elected officials
This proposal seems to truly lack care for the Ontario citizens and the indigenous communities. More thought needs to be put into this as it appears more harm than good will come if this proposal goes forward.
This bill is deeply upsetting, it feels like a bypass for many regulations that keep our land safe, and respect our first nations agreements. I am terribly upset, that this government continues to bypass reasonable regulations and boundaries that protect Ontario’s future.

I am pleased to see, in the draft regulations on criteria for designating Special Economic Zones, requirements that the Minister consider the extent to which designated projects will benefit communities within and outside the Special Economic Zone, particularly Indigenous communities.
