I do not support this proposal. The proposal allows SEZs to be declared anywhere in Ontario if Cabinet believes that area is “economically significant or strategically important” and “no larger than necessary”. This is too much discretion and power to Cabinet, risking corruption. Read more

It seems that the whole notion of special economic zones is anti-democratic. For example, you begin by informing us why consultation is not required. This leaves the impression, intended or otherwise, that any opposing views will be ignored. Read more

The economy is not the most important consideration for our lives. I believe politicians have forgotten that we are intrinsically interconnected and part of the natural world. The proposed guidelines are broad and vague, leaving them open to misuse. In light of Bill 5 and other recent blatant misappropriations of power in direct opposition to the people’s will, we do not trust the Ford government to make ethical use of any such language. Read more
