You know who does special economic zones? Underdeveloped nations. That does seem to be where this legislation will take us. To grotesque abuses of the rule of law, the rights of First Nations and of all Ontarians, as politicians bend to the will of lobbyists and 'friends'. Lire davantage

We should strongly reject the government authoritarianism and secrecy that allows the arbitrary institution of special economic zones. The Ford government was elected by a minority of Ontarians and does not represent our democratic interests. Lire davantage

I strongly oppose the proposed regulatory framework under Ontario’s Special Economic Zones Act, 2025 (Bill 5). The draft regulation fails to establish necessary safeguards to ensure transparency, environmental protection, or democratic accountability. Instead, it Lire davantage

Special Economic Zones are unnecessary and will only lead to corruption and misguided decision-making. Ontarians’ health, safety, and democracy are at risk with this act. We’re calling on the government to strengthen — not weaken — Ontario’s environmental safeguards. Say NO to this Act! Lire davantage

We are seriously AGAINST Special Economic Zones. Here is why: SEZs can be declared anywhere in Ontario if Cabinet believes that area is “economically significant or strategically important” and “no larger than necessary”. Lire davantage

Restore the Endangered Species Act. Have real consultations with Indigenous communities, including those within the Ring Of Fire Special Economic Zone. They do not want this project. Ontarians do not want these zones and projects. Lire davantage

We need government to STRENGTHEN * not weaken * Ontario’s environmental safeguards. We do not need an oligarch type provincial government. Despite clear feedback from Indigenous communities, the draft regulation contains no mechanism to affirm Indigenous rights or consultation requirements. Lire davantage

Bill 5 is wrong and most responsible citizens would recognize this. We can have economic progress without trampling on sustainable requirements that benefit everyone, especially going forward into a climate change future. I am ashamed of our Premier Firs and the Conservatives in Ontario.

The Special Economic Zones Act, 2025 (Bill 5) gives the Ontario government sweeping powers to override environmental protections, exempt hand-picked companies from laws, and sideline Indigenous voices within “Special Economic Zones” (SEZs) — in the name of “economic growth”. This is unacceptable. Lire davantage

Environmental and First Nations protections are not "red tape" and should not be pushed to the sidelines under the guise of economic prosperity. We should not be sacrificing the future with the decisions of today. Lire davantage

We have an opportunity in Ontario to do something different. To revolutionize our economy. To become more self-reliant. To focus on working with each other and other provinces to lift our people up. Lire davantage

The provincial government needs to strengthen Ontario's environmental safeguards. The Special Economic Zones Act (Bill 5) does not align with the Ontario in which I want to live and of which I want to be proud. Lire davantage

Even if the government doesn't immediately declare special economic zones, we are seeing the normalization of processes where environmental factors can be ignored; that is ignored until the damage is irreversibly done. Lire davantage

Protection of the environment should not be subservient to whatever project the minister deems to advance economic growth. Creation of special economic zones which override environmental protection, social programs or Indigenous concerns is the wrong approach. Lire davantage
